About the Class

Early Days Mom is a specialized post-natal fitness class for new mums! This class is designed to help you recover from childbirth and also get back into shape.

In this class you’ll be gently eased back into exercise, coached on how to reconnect with your core and work on building overall strength, but always respecting the fact that your body has been through a lot in the past months due to pregnancy and birth.

In the Early Days Mom class exercises are gentle and simple so that you can rehabilitate your core (includes the pelvic floor!) muscles and ensure proper breathing to keep pressure on the core to a minimum. This ‘focus’ on activating the core is vital since, due to the demands of pregnancy, your core muscles might not automatically switch-on like they used to before pregnancy. Your core is also weak post birth and doing too much too soon could cause more harm than good at this stage.

As a new mum you’re probably spending plenty of time carrying the baby, lifting him/her up from the cot and carrying prams and car seats around. Doing all of this without using your core muscles is going to cause issues, such as back pain, which is the most common complaint among new mums. In Early Days Mom, you will learn how to carry in the most optimal way, with minimum pressure on your core, and also learn how to activate your core to support you when doing these activities.

If you’ve got diastasis recti, the exercises in Early Days Mom will help to stimulate the abdominal muscles and promote healing. We also integrate pelvic floor strengthening into the exercises so that you regain strength in your pelvic floor in a functional and life-like manner. Pelvic floor rehab is important for all new mothers, whether you’ve had a vaginal birth or a c-section.

Even though the exercises are gentle, you’ll still break out a sweat and wake up with muscle soreness the next day! Also, each and every class has a different format, which keeps things exciting and challenging since you’ll never know what to expect. Your body will never get lazy or accustomed to the training because the training stimulus is constantly changing and this means you get RESULTS from every single session! We also use a range of functional training gear such as sandbags, kettlebells, medicine balls and slam balls which are fun and also great tools for building strength.

We pride ourselves with our attention to detail and small groups. You’ll learn how to exercise properly, use your core to support you in every single thing that you do and also learn optimal breathing strategies, making sure you get the most out of each and every workout, and also ensuring that you don’t get injured in the process. It’s basically just like having your very own personal trainer, but also having training buddies to workout with too!

If you want to recover from childbirth, get back into shape and build strength in a manner that is safe and respectful for your healing body, then this class is for you! Please remember to bring a bottle of water and a towel.

To get the most out of this class, we highly recommend attending a 1-1 core education and nutrition session.

Kids Welcome

We highly recommend that you use this class as part of your much needed ‘me time’ away from the kids. Attending this class alone will help you to focus on your technique and breathing and also really get into the workout mindset. However, if you’ve got no one to look after the kids while you’re training, feel free to bring them along.

Angele focuses on technique and encourages us to push ourselves that little bit further, and the fact that you actually do see an improvement from one class to the next makes you feel stronger and fitter. She is also very patient and makes sure to look after / look out for the little ones while the mummies work out, when needed. Definitely recommended!
